The Delacreme Scholars Award
We started Delacreme Scholars in 2018, 6 months after I graduated from college. During my time as a student, much like many of my peers, I struggled to pay tuition fees and constantly scrambled to find resources to help pay for school. Typically, by mid-school year, there are very few scholarship opportunities but still a large need for financial assistance. I have watched many people who wanted to continue their education be forced to withdraw from their studies due to a lack of financial stability.
Because of this, I decided to start a scholarship to award Black and Brown students with extra funding to start their second half of the school year. The scholarship could be used to help the awardee with scholastic or living expenses. The applicants have to either be from the Chicagoland area or going to a 2-year or 4 year institution in Chicago and display financial needs. We hope to be able to provide students with a break from some of their financial burdens so they could focus on achieving their education and look forward to continuing to be able to help more people as we continue to grow.
